“Echoes on the Hoodoo Walls” for Jazz Orchestra

Program note

Have you ever seen a hoodoo? They are majestic. They look kind of goofy, too. 40 million years of wind and rain erosion gave birth to these towering spires of rock. They grace the high desert areas of the Colorado Plateau and are nowhere near as abundant as in Bryce Canyon National Park, home to a natural amphitheater full of them. “Echoes” is the second in a series of vignettes for jazz orchestra; attempts to recreate the memory of a park which has fascinated me ever since.
