Online Studio

In order to make the learning goal as efficient and enjoyable as possible, these online studio policies will guide lesson scheduling, payment, and at-home practice.

Lesson Times

  • The student and teacher will work towards a lesson schedule that meets the student’s goals and availability.
  • Students should “show up” to their lesson on-time with all necessary supplies: instrument, sheet music, accessories, etc.
  • If you must cancel or reschedule a lesson, please reach out at least 24 hours before the lesson time. Lessons cancelled within 24 hours must still be paid in full (for the protection of the teacher’s time and income).
  • In the case that the teacher must cancel a lesson, options will be offered to make-up the lesson. If there is no make-up lesson, payment is not needed.

Payment

  • Lessons should be paid in advance or at the end of the lesson. For online lessons, a cash app such as Venmo or PayPal is acceptable.
  • Due to COVID-19, payment is on a sliding scale (name your price). My standard rate is $12 per 30 minutes and $14 per 45 minutes.
  • Free lessons are prioritized for K12 students or students with financial need.

Individual Practice

  • For progress to be made, it is imperative for at-home practice to become a part of the student’s routine! Practice methods are discussed and individualized in the lesson; however, a daily minimum of 20 minutes is encouraged.
  • The teacher will be able to provide most learning materials. The student may be suggested to obtain a text or sheet music in some rare instances.
  • For lessons dealing with topics that are document-heavy (such as theory/composition or songwriting), a shared Google Drive or other file-sharing platform may be used.
  • Young students are expected to have their parents assist in lessons to varying degrees (e.g. to set-up an online video call).
  • The student-teacher (and in some cases, student-parent-teacher) relationship is vital for a good lesson experience! Please don’t hesitate to communicate issues with your lessons, practice, or assignments in a mutually respectful environment.
